What is Kundalini Yoga based of the teachings of Yogi Bhajan?
Let’s start from the beginning here in this topic so it is easier to put all together.
We know that Yoga is a philosophy that connect a integrative lifestyle taking care of the mental, physical, emotional and our integration with the external world. We are familiar with the yoga practice as a tool to improve our health, flexibility, reduce level of the stress and improve the quality of life. It originally was created in India and it is very connected with Hindu philosophy. In the west We have been adapting the Yoga practice in the way is easy to digest and to have a smooth way to connect with the body, the breathing and people in the community. The physical practice of Vinyasa, Hatha, Power Yoga, Asthanga and other physical yoga styles are a excellent entry point to the holistic world and understanding the power of the personal conscious practice.
The natural human evolution is “we want to know more and go deeper” , and this is when Kundalini Yoga could be a wonderful tool to shift the game. But let’s start talking about Kundalini.
Kundalini energy is a form of divine feminine energy (or Shakti) believed to be located at the base of the spine. This energy in the body, when cultivated and awakened through tantric practice, is believed to lead to spiritual liberation. There may ways to experience the called Kundalini Awakening, it could happens spontaneously after a blissful moment. It can be beautiful and powerful, or it can be cultivated consciously and systematic with a disciplined spiritual practice.
Kundalini Yoga following the teaching of Yogi Bhajan, it is Yoga styled that compiles different elements of the traditional Yoga practices. The most important element that is essential this Kundalini Yoga practice is the Meditation, we include Meditation in every single class. And there is thousands of type of Meditation, they can be Active, with movements and chanting, or it could be quiet, maybe with some breathing, pranayam or eye focusing suggestions. Another amazing elements of the Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan are the use of sacred mantra and chants, pranayama or breathwork, specialized set of physical postures (to work is something specific), the use of Gong as part of the relaxation and meditation.
This unique combination of yogi elements when it is practice regularly work very effective on balancing all our energy centers (or chakras), reduce the stress level, increase memory and mental focus, regulate hormone levels… and yes works with the kundalini energy in a safe and conscious way where we have built a nervous system and endocrine system that handled it smoothly.
